Bates Method Principles of Eyesight Improvement: Palming

You can achieve a higher degree of rest for your eyes by closing and covering the eyes so that all light is excluded. Close both eyes and cover them with the palms of your hands, with your fingers resting and crossed over your forehead.

Simple exclusion of all vision is sufficient sometimes to produce great relaxation, although sometimes tension can increase.

Usually, effective palming involves knowledge of other ways to achieve relaxation. The simple act of closing and covering your eyes is useless unless mental relaxation is achieved as well.

When you are able to palm perfectly, you will see blackness so black that you will be unable to remember, imagine or see something blacker; and when you are able to do this, your vision will be normal.
